Church Hypocrisy

Perusing a few of my favorite gossip blogs, I can across THIS little number here.

Short end of it, actor/pastor Clifton Davis says that he ‘accepts’ homosexuals but does not think that they should be in the church. I couldn’t help but to say out loud “Now ain’t that some disrespectful shit?”

First off, let me preface this blog by saying that I believe that people should get it how they live…meaning, whatever floats your boat, do your thing. As long as it’s legal and makes you happy, by all means, do you!

However, I have issues against those that push people away from the church, letting them know that they’re not ‘welcomed’ in a place where they should feel safe and comforted in being surrounded by God’s people.

I had an incident where I attended a church after 2006 (and if you’re REALLY into my blogs/vlogs, then you know what happened in ’06). I was invited by a friend and thought “Why not?” Went to the church, had a really good time but there was a guy who literally stared me down the WHOLE time! These days, when a guy is staring at me, I don’t know if it’s because he thinks I’m attractive, has a staring problem, or he knows about 2006 (prior to, it was one of the first two lol)! Well, my friend is a member of this church and went to choir practice that Wednesday. That same night, she called me and told me that the guy who gave me the stare down made mention of my unmentionables to his mother, who is also on the choir. According to my friend, they chastised HER for even bringing me to church with her…saying that she, too, was living in sin and that she shouldn’t bring ‘such things’ into the house of the Lord.

So I made it a point to go AGAIN that following Sunday!

Let’s just say that the topic of discussion (before I came in) had to be ‘How to Give the Side Eye…in the Name of God,’ b/c it seems that this was ALL that I got!

Instead of feeling persecuted and leaving the building, I stood up and clapped, smiled at everybody and continued to enjoy the service, praising God all the way through. Why?

These people are NOT my judge, nor are they my God. They are not responsible for my ‘meeting’ with the Lord on judgement day! But it allowed me to see that (SOME) people of the church are the worst people in the world! They denounce sin and fuckery at every turn, yet when someone tries to cleanse their life or at least get a dose of the spirit for the MOMENT, they’re shunned and told “Oh, we don’t want you here! God does NOT want you in His house!”

I’m sorry but…when did God have doormaids and personal assistants? I must’ve missed that on Careerbuilder.com.

I digress.

I can totally see why homosexuals, former strippers, addicts and everything in between shy away from the church. If people inside the church are so negative and callous towards those that aren’t rolling high and Holy like they put on to be, why SHOULD they feel comfortable stepping in for the word?

let he who is without sin cast the first stone….

Sidenote: I wonder if anybody ‘chastised’ ole boy for recognizing me….Things that make you go “Hmmm.”

The Good Life...Or Is It:

I was wondering how he knew about your past too. Sounds like his mom and and her church buddies should have been giving him the side eye too. People kill me always trying to judge someone else when their closet is close to busting open too.

LAKIA, THE BLOG CHIC:

Now that’s just wrong what that man did! Like you said, Jia, No one is to judge except God himself.
PPl in church act like they are holier than thou!
They sin just as much as the ppl who don’t attend..if not, more!

ChiChi10:

I was all “Fuck Clifton’s ole gay ass” at first because I know how “chuch” people can be. Some of them are the most gossiping, hateful whores around. But after really reading his statement istead of writing him off, I have no problem with it. He’s not saying he doesn’t want anybody gay in the church; he is simply saying he does not agree with the “lifestyle” because he thinks it’s a sin. Plain and simple. No matter how conflicted I feel on the subject, I can accept somebody who isn’t disrespectful with there shit. It’s the mofos that ack like you could their draws are so clean they don’t have to change em that get me. It’s always the ones who have the most bullshit going on in their own backyard that have something to say. SMH

CoCoa GoDDeSS:

thanks for your side note i was thinking the exact same thing how did he even know who you are and who are these loser gossiping in church uuuuuugh!

Ms. Independent:

I’m mad he tried to put you on blast like that. One he was wrong to judge and two, he should consider what he was doing to know about your past anyway. What does that say about him.

Church folks can be the most judgmental creatures on this planet. What were they doing before they became all “holly rolly” like they say? Shoot what are they doing now, behind closed doors? It’s a shame. Far from what being a christian is all about.

lolamarya:

As someone who is a Bible believing Christian, I am appalled at the way the people in that church treated you. I’ve grown up in a church that accepts people for who and what they are just as Jesus did. It isn’t about the way a person walks in that matters; it is how they leave and whether or not an impression was made in their heart and mind. If we could be saved without God, why would we need Him? I though, am one of the realest people I know and throughout my years around “church folks,” have had many instances where they could not stand me because I will tell it like it is. And I can say in the same breathe that I love God, but have some issues that I am working through. The reason people don’t want to come to church is because a lot of the people there want to pretend as though they have never gone through anything or done something in opposition to God’s word. If people would start being more honest and saying, “yes I did do this, I dealt with this issue, I committed this sin, but I am a new person because God loved me for who I am and took me under His wing and changed me,” then maybe people outside the church would be more eager to come to church and draw closer to God instead of pulling away.

ivibeblk:

Funny how its okay for him to put you on blast about ’06 yet it seems as if every one else is overlooking the fact that if he’s so righteous and all godly how could he possibly be so familiar with you. What a bunch of hypocrites.

The Pretty Brown Girl:

This is why as MUCH as I love The Lord w/all my heart and soul, I can never really get down w/organized religion or “church folk”. They got too much mess w/them. How dare they be so judgmental? They obviously know nothing about Jesus, who He was on earth, how He lived His life and why He went and died on Calvary.

Bryan:

I was raised on the Church. My whole life was centered around the Church. I had some friends who never went to Church, because they said that the biggest hypocrites are in the Church. I never paid them anyone in my younger days. The reason I believe I did this was, because I’ve never experienced anything like you’ve experinced in this particualr case. Years went by and I became somewhat separte from the Church in which I grew up in. I really got a real life sense of what my friends were talking about in a ” freaky” weird way. I went to Church after coming from my fathers house, and I was in “Church clothes”. I had on a pair of black jeans not baggy and a nice buttondown shirt. And no I didn’t wear timbs. I had on nice shoes. Ask was enjoying the service I noticed a lady grilling me like I just robbed the collection plate. I’m no punk by any means but that lady scared the he’ll out of me. Here was a devoted Church going woman who loved the Lord lookin at me like I was osama bin laden. I’m ready to get up and leave at this point, but instead of leaving I continued to enjoy it at least try to enjoy the service. My point. In the Bible it says you can come to Jesus as you are that means you don’t have to wear a 3 piece stacy Adams suit everytime you got to Church. This is why the lady was grilling me. I wasn’t dressed like the other men in the Church. She took it upon herself to do her best to scare me away. Internallybsayong if you can’t dress bettervthan that you shouldn’t come to Gods house. First of all she wasn’t or anyone else pointed clothe security of the house if the Lord.. Church people get on you for not coming to Church and once you cine they make you feel unwelcome with their I’m “holy and your not” attitude. This is why the Church isn’t as previlant as it should be in society.

honeygyrl85:

Hey Jia!!! This is faye, formerly Honeygyrl85 on youtube *master cleanse*. I keep up w/ the blog. I am a Christian meaning I have a loving relationship w/ God, not church folk and I just wanted to point something out that was said by a reader…

“I can never really get down w/organized religion or “church folk”. They got too much mess w/them. How dare they be so judgmental?”

I’m confused…Isn’t that a judgemental statement by the reader? I am a member of organized religion and I, yes I, am judged for that b/c of what some bad RELIGIOUS people do. We are are put in a box together as CHURCH FOLK when 1 person messes up….

*If you read nothing else read this part*
You dont go to church b/c YOU dont want to go. If it was a 1000 bucks in front of you but you had a hole in your pants and everyone would see yo tail if you bent over, you would get that money and not care who said WHAT b/c you wanted it BAD ENOUGH! Same with church. If you (disclaimer: by you I mean ppl) really wanted to go and fellowship w/ God you would GO and not care who said what so I wish ppl would stop making excuses!

If someone in the church *I am EXTREMELY OPEN MINDED b/c I have gotten down w/ some of the worse of the worse honey, but I have been redeemed…and not ashamed of my past b/c its NOT your business* dares to say ANYTHING that can be viewed as negative about a lifestyle that the bible declares sinful then it’s classified as “You know them ppl in the church judge you…that’s why I dont go”…NO…PPL in the church arent judging you…that person did but yet you hold EVERYONE in the church accountable for what that person did (This has nothing to do w/ the situation presented in the blog or directly to Jia b/c them ppl at that church were OUT OF ORDER and there is no way around it at all, Im just making a general point)

People, weither in the church or not in the church judge other people. Period. That’s just a part of life. So the statement above irks me…

Im off my soap box but that irked me b/c I live for God and love EVERYBODY w/ all my might even when I dont life what they do and it’s bothersome to hear quotes like that.

Dueces!

Noey Babie™:

YOU KNOW WHAT?!
That’s what I was thinking the whole time. Their statement should’ve been “and how do you know???”

WDF.
smh.

Ray Forte:

I don’t know why people in church think they have done NOTHING wrong. With me being a minister, it saddens me to see Christians think that they have it all together. If I hadn’t grown in my relationship with God, I would be A LOT WORSE!! TRUST!!(LOL) Many “Christians” don’t like to admit things like this. I am because it is God’s grace and mercy that keeps me from doing stupid things. Just wanted to put my ‘lil 2 cent on this post!

Speak your peace, Talk your shit
