I know that I’ve already talked about the corniness that is the most recent McDonald’s commercials.
But this one actually pissed me off. I will have to paint the picture since I can’t find it online anywhere.
A little (black) boy walks up to the McDonald’s register and says to the BLACK cashier “Are you hiring?”
Black cashier responds with “Yea but….” (obviously ‘butting’ at the boy b/c he’s a kid).
The little boy says “Now I can set my master plan in motion! Because I want to work here when I grow up b/c I know that it’s the place to be and that there is nowhere to go but up (if you work at McDonald’s)!” He then recalls how some woman he knows started working at McDonald’s but now owns about 3 of them.
Now, I’m paraphrasing but still!
What the fuck?
See, if yall don’t see the blatant shit in that! Why are you teaching our young black men that McDonald’s is the only damn way to go? While I don’t necessarily believe that college is for EVERYBODY, I still do not want our black men thinking that working a shitty ass, barely over minimum wage job is what’s poppin’!
I am so annoyed. Sometimes, this world makes me so damn sick with the way “they” do black people! SMH!

That’s interesting that you have that reaction cuz I loved that commercial I thought it was cute.I don’t think its meant to be taken that literally or as an undercover “BlacC’s can/should only work @ McD’s” I just think it was a cute spin on the fact that most kids today have too much damn pride to work at a fast food place and earn an honest dollar cuz they think its beneath them. If they were pushing this message in the schools then oooh yeah that would be an issue but honestly I really don’t think commercials have that much influence on a lil kid in terms of what they want to do when they grow up.At least no where near the effect that music, movies and sports may have. And if it DOES have that much influence then it speaks to a great issue which the lacC of strong parenting. IMO
ChiChi10:I can see where you are coming from with that commericla, but I feel you going a little too deep. Now, if we were talking about there commercials in general, I could get with you. If we ain’t dancing, we singing…or doing both.SMH A mess…
I just finished reading a blog about Will Smith’s last few roles. Hancock and I Am Legend, for example. The blogger basically said the message is him dying for Whitey. Have you seen movies? What do you think? I personally paid more attention to the movie/storyline and not the actresses themselves. And one of the chicks was Hispanic…or at least I thought so. *Shrugs*
Lisa:I hear you, McDonald’s has definitely exploited the hell out of the black community – both with the quality of its product and its advertising. But at the same time, I know all of these McDonalds in our community are not going away. There’s too much money to be made, and I’m not mad at a young black person working hard and having a bigger piece of it. I really get sick and tired of seeing rich white and asian/Indian dudes driving up in luxury cars to franchises in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, clearly the owner checking up on tings, while the customers and staff take the train.
The Pretty Brown Girl:I’ve had about enough of McDonald’s. They are going out of their way to target minorities in their advertising. We (blacks) suffer disproportionately more diseases related to poor nutrition (obesity, hypertension, diabetes, etc) and are the LAST people who need to be eating the stuff they sell. But they keep the food cheap and locate themselves in our communities, some open 24hrs. We are being exploited big time by this corporation and act like we don’t even recognize it.
So whether its all the jukin’ and jivin’ or portraying little black boys aspiring to be a corporate drone for this monolith of dietary death, McDonald’s is gunning for us and making money off of us bloody hand over bloody damn fist.
Misunderstood:I had seen this commercial a few times, but just realized what it was I was looking at last night.
SMH….a mess.
