…and one of the inmates made a very valid point (that I probably didn’t care to think of otherwise).
He says that the lifers and lifers without possibility of parole always make it harder for folks who only have a few years to do b/c they just don’t care. They spend much of their time miserable and acting out b/c they feel that they don’t have anything to lose…they’ll look at those walls for the rest of their lives, so nothing matters to them anymore.
This show is crazy. It seems that at some point during the weekend, they always show a mini marathon of Lock Up and it’s crazy. I couldn’t imagine spending my life in prison.
Reminds me of a conversation I had with a former boo piece. One of his friends had (according to him) been wrongly imprisoned and at some point during his stay, he was jumped and raped by some of the inmates. When he (the guy who was locked up) told my guy about it, I remember him going on and on about ‘cruel and unusual’ punishment and feeling that if a person has been sentenced, they should still be protected under the law and not subjected to beatings, fights, rape, etc. while in prison. Hmm…
*back to the TV.
