…that inspired me to write this.

I remember when I was in California and went to the AIM testing facility on Van Nuys Blvd. I was in there with a girl who I made some conversation with, only for her to start asking me a million questions like I had been in the game for a minute.

The nurse walked in the room and called me to the back. As she read over my information with me, she told me “So today, we’re going to test you for gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, and HIV.”

“Umm…what about herpes or trichomoniasis? HPV? Hep,” I asked.

The nurse gave me this ‘bitch, you asking too many questions’ look and said, “Honey, we don’t and wouldn’t do all that. If we did, too many people would never get the chance to work.”

“So, what exactly are you saying?”

“That’s the difference between having a check and starving for one. The people who work in the industry aren’t going to care about anything that can’t kill them. And do you think it’s fair to tell a person that just b/c they have herpes, they can’t do what they want to do? Put your arm out…I need to draw your blood.”
