Alright, here’s the abbreviated (lol) version of my whole I get results rant.

I have been searching for the LONGEST for a new place. I am currently renting a house but wanted to move to a one level condo or apartment. After going to view a few condos and even soliciting the use of a relocation service company, I finally found one that I loved.

I was briefed by the relocation rep on the apartment community’s policy that they always ask for a deposit from all tenants but the max I’d have to pay is a month’s rent. I said fine…was use to that anyway.

I go up there, view the place, fall in love immediately. I ask them for the apartment app, fill it out. I give her all of the information needed. At that point she told me that the REAL max on an apartment there was up to two months rent. I told her that if they got my info and I had to pay that much, just shred the application and I’d look elsewhere b/c I was not about to pay $_______ to move ANYWHERE but a house.

So yea, they go through everything. Call me a day or two later and say, “Okay, we approved you, it’s just _____ down (which was equal to about a month’s rent) and you’re good to go. We just need this piece of information and you’re all set.”

Great.

So I take the information that they requested up to the community. When I get there, another girl was at the front desk and said that she remembered me from when I came last time. Then she said “Yea cuz I think that I recommended to my community manager that we do two months rent. There were a couple medical bills and a credit card on there that I thought warranted a higher deposit.”

I said “No, I was told that it was just _____ and that’s the only reason I’m up here now.” She then got a little bit of an attitude with me but I said fuck it, walked away and just thought to myself that I’d call corporate on Monday (today). I get home and find out that the administrative fee of $100 (which I was told would NOT be deducted from my account until I was A. approved for a place and B. came to see the specific apartment they were leasing to me, signed the agreement and welcome letter. They removed it ANYWAY. Corporate was DEFINITELY getting a call from me.

I kept calling corporate’s ass but would get routed to a mailbox that was either full or would disconnect. I then called the apartment community and spoke with the same young lady who told me that my deposit would be the lesser amount.

“Hey, _____. This is Jia. I spoke with you last week and brought the rest of my paperwork to you on Friday?”

“Oh yes, hey! I remember you…how can I help?”

“Well, I’m going to need the number to your corporate office b/c I feel that there was a lot of disrespect and miscommunication at the community. I loved the place but I also think it’s unacceptable for you guys to not be on one accord.”

“You’re right. Well let me talk to the community manager for you. Just give me a moment, I’ll explain what happened and will call you right back.”

Cool.

Not even 10 minutes later, she calls me back and told me that they would agree to give me my original terms, PLUS a buncha great move in bonuses as an apology for the way it was handled by the first two ladies in the office. It sounded great, so I accepted. And I’m SO HAPPY to be moving.

Now, I’m sure that most would read this and say “Oh, well I wouldn’t move there at all b/c of _________” and fill in your reason. Although I would slightly agree, I also feel that those two rude chicks shouldn’t be considered the spokes people for the property. From the time I made the first phone call until the day I visited the property, I felt good about it and received exemplary customer service. It was those TWO chicks who handled things the wrong way and I’m STILL going to speak to corporate about those two specifically. However, I will give the other people that I worked with compliments b/c they handled things the way that they should.

All in all, I’m finally moving. Yay! Pow! (onomatopoeia)

Ms. Cutie:

Jia, this exact situation are things that I try and tell my friends about everyday. (ok well not the exact situation lol) but the whole idea behind it. Ok walk with me. My main point I try to get across to people, is it’s not what happens to you that determines the outcome, but how you react.
You could have very well went ape shi* on the lady tryna get more money out of you, but you chose to walk away. You wouldn’t even be in that new place had you reacted to the lady who a. didn’t know what she was talking about b. wasn’t even handling your situation etc. You went right back to the same source that originally was helping you and that deemed to be the best choice.
Instead of getting crunk for Jesus on the lady who had an attitude and the other chick, you just made some calls, explained what as going on and took it from there. I have learned to remain calm, and walk away from many things that I wouldn’t have in the past. By doing so I see results that wouldn’t have been possible had I chose anotha gangsta route. I’m proud of you Jia. Congrats!

Jia:

Aww thank you! I didn’t even think of it like that but that is an excellent perspective. I feel all accomplished and what not! *smiles*

Grooviigirl:

It is wonderful that you were able to stay focused on what needed to be done despite the ignorance and unprofessional-ism that you went through with the people in the office. I truly understand how you feel. Some days are easier than others to deal with the bullshit of others.
Thank you sincerely Jia for posting your thoughts and feelings on everything.

PS I have to confess. I am in love with your blog even more now. I fell in love with your other site when I became bored and disenchanted with a few other blogs I enjoyed reading because of he said, she said. I just happened to run into yours and I will admit I am a follower for life. LOL

Je'Tara:

Congrats!!! As long as you feel good about staying there then it’s all good!

Dré:

Cool! Trust your instinct and go around them instead of through them :-) They’ll get what they deserve. Happy renting.

Jia:

Aww thank you mama!!! I appreciate it *smiles*

You know what? Lesson learned from this post. I am so quick to blow someone/something off when ish is askew. I need to chill! Had it of been me, I would have walked away from a place I loved just to prove a point to the community. Thanks Jia, for showin me a better way of handling things!
